Visit to Clones Photography Group
Last night saw myself and Bryan heading off to Monaghan to visit Clones Photography Group. This is a newly formed club and they hold their weekly meetings in the recently opened beautiful Peace Link Facility. I was delighted to be invited to give a presentation of my images and also to judge their monthly competition. It is always an honour and a pleasure to be invited to clubs around the country to show my work and /or to judge.
We received a lovely warm welcome and as always it was a nice experience to finally meet other photographers whom I engage with regularly on facebook & other social media, but have never actually met !
Brian had told me in advance that they had a number of easels which they had recently purchased for their forthcoming First Photography Exhibition in June which could be used for displaying my printed work.. I decided to make full use of the easels and bring some of my framed work with me too for the first time.
First of all I gave a digital presentation of my images. about 30 images in total, and talked about them as I went along. I shared the technical information and my experience at the location at time of shooting. Most of the images are from the east coast here and taken at various locations within half an hour of where I live in Drogheda. I also included a few from recent trips to Dingle. There were plenty of questions from the audience throughout the talk … After the digital presentation, I showed some of my prints and talked for a while about the printing and framing side of things.
Finally then we had the results of the monthly competition, which I had judged in advance at home. The entries were of a very high standard indeed and I had a hard job selecting the top 3 images ! Looking forward to seeing more beautiful work from this talented group in the future and hope to make it to their exhibition in June.
With thanks to Brian McNamee, James Cosgrove and John Fitzpatrick for organizing the event and all the communications involved.
Also to James and Brian for the photos.
Hope to see you all soon again !
additional note : Sincere thanks to all the members of Clones PG for their lovely words of praise about my visit there , and sending me the link to this piece in the Northern Standard newspaper. It made my dawhen club Treasurer , Brian Mc Namee sent it to me.
